Ilia graduated from the secondary school of the village of Gurni. After graduating from school, he continued his studies at the military academy. In 1977-1981, he studied at a technical school. After graduating, he began working at an electromechanical factory in various positions.

Since 2025, he has joined the Habitat for Equality Achievements and Development team as a driver at the Kutaisi Day Center for Children with Disabilities, “Magic World”.
